What is Electrosurgery Testing & Why is It Critical?

Electrosurgical Units (ESUs) use high-frequency (300 kHz to over 3 MHz) electrical currents to cut, coagulate, desiccate, or fulgurate tissue during surgery. Because high RF energy passes directly through or near the patient’s body, inaccurate power delivery or faulty isolation can cause severe third-degree patient burns, surgical fires, or operator shock.

What is ESU testing?
ESU (Electrosurgical Unit) testing is the process of verifying the electrical safety, high-frequency RF power output accuracy, high-frequency leakage currents, and return electrode monitoring (REM/CQM) safety circuits of electrosurgical generators used in operating rooms.

Electrosurgical generators output high RF currents capable of cutting human tissue.
